Tips to Cook Frozen Rice
If you’re lucky, you can buy your frozen rice already thawed, but if not, you’ll have to place it in a bowl of water to loosen the blockage. Then, you can pour it into a pot and season it as per your preference.
You’ll need some plastic containers or Tupperware that has handles to place it in, but the final method isn’t complicated. You just need to transfer the rice to the pot on top of the lid, and you’re done. Make sure to add water until the rice is covered, then let it cook on a high heat for about 15 minutes.
Now, your rice should be fully cooked and ready to eat. If you need to cook a large amount, you can always cook in batches.
Now, remember, you’re cooking frozen rice, so as mentioned above, you should be careful to avoid burning it.
Cooking Frozen Rice in a Stovetop
The first thing you want to do when cooking frozen rice in a pot is bring it to a boil on the stovetop. You’ll need to add two tablespoons of water to the pot.
Once it boils, turn the heat down to medium and cook it until the water is absorbed. Stir occasionally. This will take around 15-20 minutes.
Remove the pot from the heat and cover it. Once the rice has cooled slightly, it is safe to remove the lid.
Cooking Frozen Rice in a Microwave
This is the easiest way to cook your rice from frozen and in a microwave, so this is what we recommend. All you need to do is cook it in the microwave on high for three minutes. After that, you’re all done. You won’t need to add any extra water or mix the rice to the pot.
Cooking Frozen Rice in an Instant Pot
For this Instant Pot version, you’ll need:
2 cups of washed and dried rices (basmati, jasmine, red, long-grain white, instant or quick)
2 cups of water
A plastic bag (or other way to seal the bag)
Fill the Instant Pot rice cooker with water. This recipe calls for 1 cup of water, but any amount you choose should work. If you are using a glass pressure cooker, you may need to use two cups of water instead of 1. When the water reaches the “autominer” setting, select “Manual” or “Cancel” and cook for 45 minutes.
Set the timer for 25 minutes for rice to cook. When the timer goes off, stir in the rice with the black pepper. If you’d like, you can cook this a bit longer for more flavor.
Cooking Frozen Rice in a Rice Cooker
Here’s how you cook frozen rice using a rice cooker. Just follow the instructions below.
Step 1: Prepare Rice
Find a container with a tight fitting lid. Place the rice into the container. Fill up the container to the 3/4 mark with water. Turn the rice cooker to Manual, Select Slosh Function and close the lid. If your rice cooker has a timer, set it for 8 minutes on/7 minutes off or until your rice is cooked.
Step 2: Turn On and Wait
Once the rice cooker has finished the cooking cycle, the rice will be ready to eat. But the cooking is not finished yet. You must wait to take your rice out of the machine until it has cooled and become sturdy. It’s best to leave it alone in the warmer (usually in your refrigerator) until the time comes to make rice.
